Sumos

MaxPower
Silent Bob

Created by: Andri Ulrich

I built this mini-sumo for a competition in May of 2001 . It is powered by four 9 volt batteries, three of which are used for driving the motors, and the other one for powering the BasicStamp II. It uses a L298N motor driver chip to deliver 27 volts to the geared Maxon motors, hence the name MaxPower. I am using no egde detection, instead I am using an attacking detection needle.

This is the sumo we took to Calgary in the summer of 2000 to the WCRG. The top picture is a computer model of it, and the second picture is Silent Bob in its early completion stages. The gear boxes are heavy-duty ones used in childern's electric cars, thus they are very rugged. They are driven by two high output R/C car motors, and as you can see the chain drives all four wheels.
